Focus on function
The Functional Movement Program
Wellness Springs offers the complete Functional Movement Program including the Functional Movement Screen, the Corrective Exercise program as well as follow-up screening to monitor progress.
:: The Functional Movement Screen
Put simply, the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can distort body awareness, diminish performance and even predispose an athlete to injury.
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is today’s gold standard in physical medicine for peak performance and injury prevention. It consists of seven key movements that evaluate core strength, balance, co-ordination and flexibility. The test brings an athlete’s underlying problems to the surface – key muscle weakness or tightness, movement asymmetries, lack of balance, ability to stabilize and in-coordination can easily be seen. Once the problems are identified, they can be treated!
:: The Score
The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns.
We then monitor the FMS score to track progress and to help create an effective corrective exercise program.
:: The Corrective Exercise Program
A specific set of exercises is then prescribed that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength in each individual. Once the exercises can be performed with proper form, they are given to the athlete to perform at home.
:: The Best of Functional Medicine
In addition, a program of hands-on functional therapy is begun to restore proper movement and address any muscle imbalance or joint dysfunction. It may take you weeks to lengthen a muscle with stretching on your own, but with the addition of soft tissue release techniques – results are achieved sometimes in a few visits!
The doctors at our office use foam rollers, facial release sticks, FAKTR release and post-isometric relaxation to increase range of motion, inhibit tight muscles and reduce fascial tension. In addition, Chiropractic adjustment, manual trigger point and fascial release techniques are very effective in restoring balance and normalizing proprioception in an athletic body.
:: A Complete Functional Program
The FMS test results and Score is integrated into a detailed report that merges our suggestions for Corrective Exercise, Functional Treatment and then Functional training which is sport and athlete specific. The result is a well rounded program aimed at restoring functional movement, injury prevention and enhanced athletic performance.
We are dedicated to helping you to define and achieve your personal goals. We take the time to establish a comprehensive knowledge of how your body moves, and then create treatment and training programs and strategies that are second to none.
